These poems teach even me. Ah, they feel

Artful, like I’m in control. Like I’m looking

For the right angle: how they’ll play in sequence.

I look at them and say, yeah well, hell

With that: what I want’s that guy. Really,

What’s the problem here? How many bushes

Can we beat? Bullshit about our wishes?

Yet I get caught on words like pain, dance, angel,

Sweet and everything changes. It’s not just

Me and my desire. Problem of other

Minds. Worse, my lust itself gets refined.

It widens, curlicues and grows –

Takes on things that I don’t want to know. Blast.

Poets. Who says I want it all to last?
